3G to be launched in India in second half of 2007 
Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, Minister for Communications & IT, said that 3G is expected to be launched in India in second half of 2007.  
The government will give a formal report in next three months to implement the services. TRAI has submitted its recommendations on the same in which the regulator has suggested auctions to allocate frequencies to run 3G services. The bandwidths are currently under the control of defence authorities.

QUALCOMM and HFCL Sign 3G CDMA Subscriber Unit and Modem Card License Agreement 
QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:  QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of CDMA2000®, WCDMA and other advanced wireless technologies, and Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL), today announced that QUALCOMM and HFCL have signed a commercial CDMA2000 subscriber unit and modem card license agreement.  Under the terms of the worldwide, royalty-bearing agreement, QUALCOMM has granted HFCL, QUALCOMM's first licensee in India, a patent license to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000 subscriber units and modem card products.  The royalties payable by HFCL are at QUALCOMM's standard worldwide rates. more...

Reliance Communications Launches Cricket Subscription Pack for all its Customers Nationwide 
Reliance Communications announced the availability of Cricket Subscription pack on its DIAL 1234 Service on nationwide basis for the India - West Indies - Australia Cricket Series.  Customers can DIAL 1234 and say "SCORES" and subscribe to special Cricket SMS alerts for the entire series for Rs.49 only. The pack is available throughout India and customers who subscribe to this pack would receive SMS alerts after every 10 overs, every wicket and after every landmark moments (century, record break). more...

GSM industry witnesses a sharp spurt in growth 
According to latest COAI release, India added 4.20 million GSM subscribers in August'06. With this GSM subscriber base touched 86.6 million. Mr. T.V. Ramachandran, Director General, COAI stated that "this is a strong evidence of the fact that GSM continues to be the predominant technology choice of the masses." On the other hand CDMA subscriber additions were close to 1.48 million last month. Total CDMA subscriber base in the country is around 29.2 million.

Reliance Communications Ltd.(RCOM) completes corporate reorganisation in record period of six months 
Reliance Communications Limited ("RCOM") today announced the completion of its corporate reorganisation plan initiated in March 2006, in a record period of less than 6 months from the listing of the Company. The orders of the Hon'ble High Court of Bombay approving the reorganisation have been filed with the Registrar of Companies, and the stock exchanges. RCOM has now become the primary operating company for the entire telecom business. Alcatel and SFR are researching mobile broadcasting solutions 
Alcatel and SFR announced today their collaboration in the field of mobile broadcasting in France. The objective of the joint effort is to validate business prospects for mobile TV broadcasting and evaluate the technical performance of Alcatel's "Unlimited Mobile TV", a hybrid satellite and terrestrial solution in the S-Band. VSNL reduces Bandwidth prices by upto 40%, announces two new Submarine Cable Systems 
Tata Group Company, VSNL has announced a significant reduction in prices for its international bandwidth products -- International Private Leased Circuits (IPLC) and Internet Leased Lines (ILL). The global telecom major has reduced its IPLC prices in India by upto 25%, effective September 1, 2006. It has also announced a reduction of its ILL tariffs by upto 40%. The All India GSM subscriber base grew from 78.5 million in June'2006 to 82.4 million in July'2006 - recording an addition of 3.93 million. There was an overall growth of 5.01% over the previous month.

Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) today announced unaudited proforma consolidated financial results for the quarter ended 30th June, 2006. The highlights of financial performance are:

Bharti Airtel announces un-audited results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2006 
Bharti Airtel Limited ("Bharti" or "the company") today announced its un-audited results for its first quarter ended June 30, 2006. It has once again maintained its strong growth momentum as it announced its operational and financial results. The consolidated total revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 2006 of Rs. 3,856 crore grew by 53% and EBITDA of Rs. 1,502 crore grew by 60% on a year on year basis.  The cash profit from operations of Rs. 1,333 crore grew by 44% over the corresponding quarter last year. The net profit during the quarter ended June 30, 2006 was Rs. 755 crore, a growth of 48% from the corresponding quarter of last year. more...

Reliance Communications slashes ILD rates by up to 66% 
Reliance Communications, India's largest integrated telecom service provider, today announced slashing international call rates on by up to 66 per cent. The new rates would enable Reliance customers to call all numbers in USA, Canada and SE Asia at Rs 4.50 per minute, calls to UK on landline and mobile will cost Rs 6.00 and Rs 8.00 per minute respectively, and all calls to Gulf countries will cost only Rs 8.00 per minute. Calls to Australia and New Zealand are lowered to Rs 6.00 from Rs 18.00. The new tariffs are amongst the lowest in the country and would be available on Reliance Global Call card across all denominations. more...
