Google launches Android One smartphones in India around Rs 6,399
Google launched Android One smartphones in India through Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. Android One is a set of specifications that allow any OEM to build a low cost smartphone with reference hardware. These devices can receive updates directly from Google although manufacturers can add their own apps. Panasonic launches P61, P41 and T41 smart devices in India
Panasonic India launched three new smartphones in India namely P61, P41 and T41 priced at Rs.14,990, Rs. 11,990 and Rs 7,990 respectively. These devices have 1.3GHz quad core processor and Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. Glide play, a unique feature enables apps to pop-out and glide along from one screen to the other. Other Panasonic features include Pop-i Player, Music Cafe and Gesture Play+. Panasonic P61 is a dual-sim smartphone with 6-inch IPS display, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 2MP front-facing camera, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi Direct and multiple sensors. Amitabh Bachchan launched LG G3 in India
    The legand Amitabh Bachchan launched LG Electronic's new smartphone LG G3 in Mumbai, India today. Priced at Rs.50,990 for 32 GB and Rs.47,990 for 16 GB versions, it will be available in three colours. LG Electronics India Managing Director Soon Kwon said, "With G3, LG has truly broken technological grounds and we aim to spearhead our vision of 10 per cent smartphone market share by end of 2014 for LG’s mobile division in India”. The company will release 15,000 limited edition G3 smartphones with the actor’s signature in the Indian market. The handset boasts of 5.5 inch display, 13 MP camera, Android OS v4.4.2 (KitKat) and Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.

BlackBerry launched Z3 in India for Rs.15,990
BlackBerry launched Z3 smartphone in India for Rs.15,990. For the first time, BlackBerry has launched BlackBerry Maps in India with this phone. This app provides 2D maps, local search and voice guided directions. The phone has five-inch display, is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor and 1.5GB RAM. The phone runs latest BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1 “The BlackBerry Z3 is also the first smartphone to be introduced from our strategic partnership with Foxconn and it further strengthens our commitment to enhance our devices portfolio,” Sunil Lalvani, managing director for India at BlackBerry said.   Vodafone announces that it now owns 100% of its Indian subsidiary, Vodafone India Limited (“VIL”). In March 2014, Vodafone completed the acquisition of indirect equity interests in VIL held by Analjit Singh and Neelu Analjit Singh, taking its stake to 89.03% of VIL. Today Vodafone acquired the remaining 10.97% of VIL from Piramal Enterprises Limited. The combined cash consideration for both transactions was INR 10,142 crores (£1.0 billion1). The Foreign Investment Promotion Board approved both acquisitions on 20 February 2014, following receipt of the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. more...

LINE Surpasses 400 Million Registered Users
  Since the launch of the LINE service on June 23, 2011, it has grown into a global communications app that lets users communicate through voice and video calls as well as stickers and text messages. The total number of registered users exceeded 300 million on November 11, 2013, with growing user numbers in countries such as North America and Europe adding to the already large user bases in Spain, Southeast Asia, and other countries. The amount of daily new users reached a record-breaking number of around 1.7 million per day, indicating rapid growth worldwide. This trend has continued and just 4 months after the last milestone of 300 million users, the amount of LINE users worldwide surpassed 400 million on April 1. NOKIA launches Android phones named "X-series"
  Now Microsoft owned, handset manufacturer NOKIA launched Android OS based smartphones in the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona. Named as "X-series" these smartphones running on Android 4.4 would be available in India in the price range of Rs.8000 to Rs.10,000. This is company's strategy to grab larger share of fast growing mid price range smartphone market primarily in India, Brazil, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. These smartphones would be able to run some specific Microsoft applications like search engine Bing, video calling app Skype, HERE maps, Nokia Mix Radio alongwith other Android apps.

Facebook buys mobile messaging service WhatsApp for $19 billion
  Facebook announced its acqusition of internet based mobile messaging service WhatsApp for $19 billion. WhatsApp has 50 million users in India while Facebook has 100 million. WhatsApp claims a subscriber base of more than 450 million users worldwide, largely in Europe, Latin America and India. The 5 year old company with 50 employees WhatsApp targets to connect one billion people. "WhatsApp's extremely high user engagement and rapid growth are driven by the simple, powerful and instantaneous messaging capabilities we provide," said Jan Koum, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO who will now join the Facebook board as a director. India has 239 million internet users where around 100 million use broadband. The smartphone users in India are estimated at 160 million.

Uninor announces 30% network expansion in one go, largest since launch
Company has already achieved break-even in India and continues to gain market share
  Uninor has today announced its largest ever network expansion with the deployment of 5000 additional network sites in its six circles of UP West, UP East, Bihar (including Jharkhand), Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat. This is a 30% expansion of network sites in one go – the largest ever since launch of operations - and will be completed within the next 5 months. With this expansion, Uninor will have close to 24,000 network sites deployed across its six circles with an ability to cover 5 crores or 50 million additional population in these regions.
