BT today announced the appointment of Ganesh K Vanapalli as Chief Security Officer (CSO) for the Asia Pacific markets, based in New Delhi. The appointment is effective immediately. Investing £300,000 in essential IT and communications technology needed to deliver Proactive disaster relief worldwide 
BT today announced a three-year partnership with the British Red Cross in support of disaster relief worldwide.  BT, the first global communications company ever to partner with the British Red Cross in this capacity, will provide support through a three-year programme, providing £100,000 each year.  This partnership will directly benefit communities across the globe that have been impacted by natural disasters, human conflict and other social, political and economic factors, through proactive disaster relief. more...

BT’s Media and Broadcast sector has inked an agreement with India’s largest private broadcaster of news and current affairs television, New Delhi Television (NDTV) to be its global network supplier, enabling them to distribute to BskyB and Direct TV in the UK and US respectively. This is part of NDTV’s global growth strategy. BT will carry the live NDTV news bulletins to multiple platforms on its state of art network specially rolled out for television and media companies. more...

Sony Ericsson announces product development unit in India 
Sony Ericsson today announced that it is establishing a research and development unit for mobile phones in Chennai, India.The move follows closely on the company’s January announcement of sourcing local manufacture of phones in Chennai with EMS partners Flextronics and Foxconn; with a production target of 10 million units by 2009. ValueFirst launched SMS pull service for stock brokers using which they can send stock tips to their clients remotely. Imagine a scenario, when a Stock Broker is away from his computer and he receives a call on a stock tip. Now, if he has to inform it to his 100 clients; he can just send a SMS at a special number which will then be forwarded to his 100 clients automatically. BT to serve Nestlé with global infrastructure 
BT has today announced a new global services agreement with Nestlé, the world’s leading Food Company. This very significant deal will see BT deliver, develop and manage Nestlé’s global wide area network services for another three years. The scope of the contract is to deliver and manage a global VPN (Virtual Private Network) using MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) services connecting more than 1,000 sites worldwide. The use of conferencing by BT staff worldwide has reduced BT’s carbon footprint by at least 97,000 tonnes of CO2 and eliminated more than 860,000 face-to-face meetings, the results of a survey announced today revealed.  

The February 2007 survey by the University of Bradford and SustainIT looked at the economic, environmental and social impact of conferencing at BT. A sample of 6,000 BT staff from across the company were surveyed on their use of conferencing, with the findings extended to BT as a whole and annualised.  The use of conferencing and collaboration services enable people to conduct meetings with colleagues via telephone, video or web, facilitating speedier decision making, increased productivity and a reduction in associated travel costs. more...

Bharti Airtel, India’s leading telecom services provider today introduced its popular Lifetime Prepaid at a lower price point of Rs 495/- only. Airtel is the first mobile services provider in the country to offer Lifetime Prepaid at this price point. This is a significant initiative that further reinforces Airtel’s commitment to make mobile more affordable and provide greater value to the Airtel prepaid customer. 

The 495 Lifetime Prepaid offers an Airtel user full talk time on all future recharges. BT Q4/final results announcement 
BT Global Services, the division in charge of BT's operations in India, continues its journey to be the global leader in the digital networked economy, increasing revenues outside the UK in Q4 at a 17 per cent market beating year on year growth rate and signing £9.3 billion of ground-breaking contracts for the full year, spanning all geographies and services.  

BT Global Services also achieved its 20th successive quarter of year-on-year EBITDA growth (pre-leavers). There was continuing strong growth throughout the year in continental Europe, as well as in emerging regions such as Latin-America, Central & Eastern Europe and MEA. Europe grew at 15 per cent in Q4 (10 per cent full year),  Asia Pac grew at 20 per cent in Q4 (more than 15 per cent full year), North America grew more than 30 per cent in Q4 (more than 20 per cent full year). more...

QUALCOMM and DigiBee Sign CDMA2000 Subscriber Unit and Modem Card License Agreement 
SAN DIEGO —  May 16, 2007 —  QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA ) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced that it has signed a CDMA2000® subscriber unit and modem card license agreement with DigiBee Microsystems Inc., a Delaware corporation. Under the terms of the worldwide, royalty-bearing agreement, QUALCOMM has granted DigiBee Microsystems a patent license to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000 subscriber units and modem card products. Texas Instruments Goes Beyond 3G with New LTE Offering for Wireless Infrastructure 
As Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) deployments continue to expand worldwide, Texas Instruments is now looking beyond 3G – to Long Term Evolution (LTE).  An initiative of the Third Generation Partnership Program (3GPP), LTE encompasses higher data rates and flexibility in frequency allocations needed to support IP-based applications set to deploy between 2008 and 2012.  In order to accelerate original equipment manufacturers’ (OEMs) time to market with LTE technology, TI has created a development ecosystem, combining its wireless infrastructure optimized digital signal processors (DSP), software libraries and ATCA/AMC cards from leading systems developers Mercury Computer Systems and Silicon Turnkey Express (STx).  more...

GSM Subscriber Additions over 6 million in March’07 
GSM Subscriber Additions higher by 85% in the financial year ending March 07 
COAI is delighted to report a subscriber addition of over 6.13 million during the month of March’07  the highest ever subscriber additions since inception of service. The cumulative All India GSM subscriber base has now grown to 121 million in March 2007, up from 115 million in February 2007, a growth of about 5% during the month of March 07. Mr Ramachandran, Director General, COAI stated, “COAI is delighted at the pace of subscriber growth which has been primarily driven by ever increasing subscriber demand for the GSM service.” more...
