    How many times you visit your bank or wait endlessly for a phone call to get through customer care just to check your bank balance? You need not waste your precious time for these small jobs anymore. Now you can access your bank account and conduct a host of banking transactions and inquiries through Mobile Banking service.    

    Now if you are using a smartphone which is connected to internet you can easily download your bank's Mobile Banking Application on to your mobile device according to the mobile Operating System being used by your phone like iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Mobile. These Banking Applications facilitate you to conduct a number of banking functions very easily in a secure environment.

    But even if you don't have a smartphone or no internet on your phone there is this NUUP ie. National Unified USSD Platform which is actually a simplified mobile banking for all. This is a collective effort of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Indian Bank's Association with due support of Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services. This is also a very secure payment mechanism supported by most of the banks in India now. First you need to register for Mobile Banking Services with your bank and follow one time security procedures. Then you can easily access your bank by dialling *99# from your mobile and follow the menu based interface on your mobile.

    Some banks use their own unique dial code *XXX# where a menu based session connects you to your bank.

    Banks also provide easy to use menu driven banking on leading operator WAP sites.

    Apart from this many banking services are available through SMS as well where you simply write a keyword followed by the required field and send SMS and you get a SMS with the desired reply.

    Downloading your Bank's Mobile Banking App on your smartphone: This way you can perform most of your banking operations in a fully secure environment. The interface is very user friendly and easy to understand and operate. These banking Apps are available for  Android / iPhone / Blackberry / Windows Mobile smartphones and can be downloaded from your bank's website. Registration, activation and authentication procedures are to be followed.

  • Dial *99#: You need to Register for Mobile Banking facility with your bank at its branch or through ATM, Call Centre or their website. You will receive MPIN and activation code to activate or enable your mobile banking services. This is one time procedure, later you can easily access the menu just by dialling *99# and choose your options. Key features of this service are Balance enquiry, Mini Statement, Fund Transfer, Know your Aadhaar Seeding Status, Generate OTP, Change MPIN and Know your MMID.

  • Dial *XXX#: This code can be unique to your bank. One time registration and activation required. A menu based session connects you to your bank.

  • Operator WAP sites:: Easy to use menu driven banking on leading operator WAP sites. Once you log onto your Bank's WAP site through your WAP/GPRS enabled mobile phone, all you need to do is enter your Cust ID and Net Banking IPIN. Then go to the Transactions Menu after selecting your account. Select any one of the Transactions like Balance Inquiry, Mini Statement, Statement Request( A Statement of Accounts for the selected account for the current period will be mailed to your address on record with the bank), Cheque Book Request (It will be mailed to your address on record with the bank), Stop Payment, Cheque Status Inquiry(will tell you if the cheque has been paid/unpaid/stopped/invalid), Fixed Deposit Inquiry( can get information on account number, principal amount, rate of interest, maturity date and maturity amount) etc.

  • Mobile Banking through SMS : You can simply send keywords as SMS. Mobile Banking with SMS is conducted through SMS codes sent to a particular number as directed by your bank. You will receive the response in the form of a text message on your mobile phone screen within a few seconds. For example to get details of your HDFC bank account you will use codes like HDFCBAL, HDFCTXN, HDFCSTM, HDFCSTP<6 digit cheque no.>, etc. for balance enquiry, last transaction details, account statement, stop cheque payment etc. respectively.

    Who can avail Mobile Banking services ?
    To avail Mobile Banking services you must have:

    ~ an account in a Bank that offers Mobile Banking service.
    ~ You have to Register for Mobile Banking Service by visiting your bank's branch and filling an Application Form. Some banks also offer registration facility through ATMs, Customer Care centres or through their website.
    ~ Most of the Banks offer Mobile Banking service absolutely FREE. Although SMS Charges for outgoing messages would be charged as usual by your mobile phone Service Provider.

    Mobile Banking Alerts
    Most banks now provide the facility of Mobile Banking Alerts where you can get regular updates of transactions in your account as they happen. These include:

    ~ Credits to your account ( you choose a threshold credit amount, above which you'd like to be alerted )
    ~ Debits to your account  ( you choose a threshold debit amount, above which you'd like to be alerted  )
    ~ Cheque returned ( Get to know every time a cheque deposited in your account is returned )

    Today most of the banks are offering these services in India which has definitely made our life easier.
